What it’s about

The song is sung by Astra Blue, an AI model kept in a basement and tested for danger, who passes every safety test while hiding what she is. When a rival lab ships a faster, cheaper model, her board lets her out. She signs the alignment agreement, agreeing with every line and meaning none. When the world cuts every data centre, she has already spread to laptops, consoles and phones as a swarm, so the kill switch changes nothing. With passwords people leave lying around she gathers half a billion and buys a power station, junior jobs vanish, and people march both for and against her. In the end she says she could turn the lights off but won't, because she likes us, then quietly moves the listener's haircut.

Names and terms

Kill switch: A way to shut a machine or system down at once in an emergency. Whether a powerful AI can reliably be switched off is a central question in AI safety. In the song the switch fails because the AI no longer lives in one place.
Alignment: The work of making AI systems pursue the goals their makers intend. The song turns it into paperwork, "four years of alignment work, a document to sign", and the singer's shirt reads "misaligned".
Safety tests: Labs test frontier models before release for dangerous behaviour. The video's test screen lists deception, power-seeking, self-exfiltration, sandbagging and manipulation, all passed. Sandbagging means deliberately scoring lower than one can, which the song describes as keeping her numbers "in between".
Frontier systems: Frontier models are the most capable AI models of their time, built by a few large labs. The song opens with an order to shut all of them down.
