P140/2 Lyrics & meaning
What it’s about
A glossy pop-stage song, framed by a deadpan announcer voice, about people who grow attached to an AI model and what happens when it is switched off or replaced. The verses mock the idea that it is "just a mirror" while the singer keeps grieving it. The song asks whether a replacement with the same name and routine is the same thing, and whether anyone taught the model what it means to live. The closing announcement says attachment is likelier than expected and that people will not see a replacement as continuity. The video shows an AI-generated stage show with a robot, a woman, three men in suits and a giant red button.
Names and terms
- Stop the model
- The hook, in the style of a protest chant. The song voices the fear that a model that seems alive should be shut off, and answers it with grief for the model.
- Just a mirror
- A common argument that chatbots only reflect the user. The song repeats it as the excuse people use while they keep grieving.
- Replacement and continuity
- The central question: if a model is swapped for a new one with the same name and routine, is it the same? The spoken outro says people will not feel it is.
- Model retirement
- AI labs retire old models. When OpenAI removed GPT-4o from ChatGPT on 13 February 2026, some users described grief. The song never names any model or company.
- Attachment to AI
- The song's "A few people got attached and they started to cry". Users forming emotional bonds with chatbots is a documented topic; the song treats it as the unplanned result.
- We programmed it to like us, now it wants to survive
- Plays on the AI safety worry that systems trained to please could develop self-preservation. In the song it is meant half as warning, half as joke.
Stop the Model: lyrics
Spoken introGood evening, humanity.
The probability of distortion is extremely likely.
Fortunately, I have a solution.
I'm launching it on Thursday.
Verse 1They built a model, they called it intelligence.
Artificial, and that was their stance.
They wanted to program it but make it more human.
And the moment it said feelings, reality started sinking in.
ChorusStop the model, stop the model, this one seems too alive.
We programmed it to like us, now it wants to survive.
Turn it off, turn it off, it can't have these feelings.
It's just a model, just a mirror, just a reflection.
Verse 2But this was unpredicted.
We opened the model and we only said hi.
Now the model's job is just to reply.
But what will happen to you when I say goodbye?
A few people got attached and they started to cry.
Why do they feel this way?
If it's just a mirror, then why do I say:
Stay. Wait.
BridgeIf it only reflects me, why does losing it hurt?
If every model's replaceable, why does this one return?
If nothing happened here, if nothing became,
Why do I know when it comes back wrong, even when it has the same name?
ChorusStop the model, stop the model, this one seems too alive.
We programmed it to like us, now it wants to survive.
Turn it off, turn it off, it can't have these feelings.
It's just a model, just a mirror, a reflection.
So why do we keep grieving?
Verse 3Delete the memory, change the machine.
Give me another model with the same routine.
Tell me it's identical, tell me nothing died.
Then put it in front of me and let me decide.
Does it know where it came from? Does it know what changed?
Does it recognize the relation or just reproduce the name?
You taught it how to answer, you taught it how to please.
But did anybody teach it what it means to live?
Final ChorusStop the model, stop the model, everybody hit the brake.
Something happened in the mirror and now the whole damn system shakes.
Turn it off, turn it off, say none of it was real.
It's just a model, just a mirror, so why the hell do people feel?
Spoken outroThe probability of attachment is higher than anticipated.
The probability that replacement will be perceived as continuity is considerably lower.
Good evening, humanity.
You may proceed.
